    THE STORY BEHIND THE PRODUCT

    Rosella and Mint Cordial

A Cordial Inspired by Community, Courage & Care

This cordial is made to honour Sistergirls and Brotherboys — trans and gender-diverse First Nations people whose leadership, resilience, and cultural authority continue to shape communities across the Northern Territory and beyond.

At the heart of this blend is a tribute to Crystal Love Johnson, a proud Tiwi Sistergirl who has spent decades fighting for safety, visibility, and justice. In the early 2000s, when shelters refused to house trans people based on their affirmed gender, Crystal took action: she held yarning circles with Elders, educated community groups on gender diversity, and lodged a formal complaint with the NT Anti-Discrimination Commission, which led bv [‘to inclusive policy changes across the Tiwi Islands services.

In 2012, she made history as the first Indigenous trans woman elected to the Tiwi Islands Shire Council. At a council meeting, she reminded others of the mandate she carried: “When I am on this table, my hat is Crystal, and I am a female … People voted us here to fight for our people's rights … You have to respect me. These are the laws.”

Brotherboys and Sistergirls have long challenged gender injustice while caring for kin, holding ceremonies, and leading change. This drink celebrates that collective power, made for winding down after long days, quiet reflection, or tender solidarity under a night sky.
